-
Digital skill acquisition has become a critical requirement for graduates seeking relevance in contemporary technology-driven workplaces. This study examined the influence of social learning platforms on digital communication and professional skill acquisition among students of Office Technology and Management (OTM) in public universities in Lagos and Ogun States, Nigeria. Specifically, the study investigated the relationship between social learning platform usage, collaborative learning features, digital communication skills, and professional competencedevelopment. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population comprised undergraduate OTM students in selected public universities in Lagos and Ogun States, from which 468 respondents were sampled using a multistage sampling procedure. Data were collected using a researcher-developed instrument titled Social Learning Platforms and Digital Skills Acquisition Questionnaire (SLPDSAQ). Face and content validity were established by experts in business education and educational technology, while Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficients ranging from 0.79 to 0.92 confirmed internal consistency. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation at 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed that social learning platforms significantly enhanced students’ digital communication, teamwork, collaboration, and professional competencies. Significant positive relationships were found between social learning platform usage and digital skill acquisition (r = .607, p < .05), and between collaborative features and teamwork/interpersonal skills (r = .593, p < .05). The study concluded that social learning platforms are effective instructional
tools for promoting employability skills among OTM students.
