- <p>This study investigated the influence of guidance services on academic adjustment and career <br>choice among secondary school students in Jalingo Metropolis, Taraba State, Nigeria. With <br>a focus on orientation services, guidance services, and referral services, the research sought<br>to understand how these guidance services contribute to students’ academic adjustment and <br>career choice. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from a sample of 300 <br>respondents (270 students and 30 teachers) across five public secondary schools with a <br>population of 2800, through a validated questionnaire titled Academic Adjustment and <br>Career Choice Questionnaire (AACCQ). The analysis employed mean and standard deviation <br>to address the study’s research questions. Findings revealed that orientation services <br>significantly enhance students' adaptation to school environments and personal development, <br>although their role in preparing students for academic challenges was less effective. <br>Guidance services positively impacted students' goal-setting, motivation, and academic <br>confidence but were found less effective in supporting subject selection for career alignment. <br>Referral services emerged as highly effective in addressing students’ academic, emotional, <br>and behavioral issues through timely professional support. The study concludes that a well-<br>structured and resource-supported counselling system enhances students’ academic <br>performance and career planning. Recommendations include improving the depth of <br>orientation programs, enhancing the career guidance component of counselling, and <br>reinforcing the referral system for comprehensive student suppor</p>
