•
This dataset contains exported MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry reports generated for Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry (ZooMS) analysis of faunal remains from the Ibero-Oretani site of Cerro de las Cabezas, Valdepeñas, Ciudad Real, Spain.

The analyses were carried out as part of a multi-proxy study of an exceptional Late Iron Age deposit from Cerro de las Cabezas, consisting of two adult male individuals associated with six large red deer antlers. ZooMS was applied to faunal remains that could not be reliably identified using morphological criteria alone, in order to support taxonomic identification through peptide mass fingerprinting.

Sample preparation from extracted collagen and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analyses were carried out at the Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Unit, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela. Collagen extracts were digested with sequencing-grade trypsin, and the resulting peptide mixtures were analysed using a Bruker Ultraflex III MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer operated in MS mode for peptide mass fingerprinting (PMF).

The dataset includes exported MALDI-TOF reports for samples CCAB-11 to CCAB-16. Each PDF report contains the acquisition information, mass spectrum and exported peak list for the corresponding sample. The diagnostic peptide markers and taxonomic assignments are reported in the associated article.

All analysed specimens displayed peptide markers compatible with Sus sp., encompassing both wild boar and domestic pig. These files are provided to support transparency and reproducibility of the ZooMS identifications reported in the associated publication.
