-
This study analyzed the spatiotemporal changes in Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) in Bongabon from 2015 to 2025 using Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing techniques. The study aimed to identify LULC classifications, determine spatial and temporal changes, quantify area variations, and identify dominant land cover changes within the municipality. Secondary datasets from Geoportal Philippines and GADM were processed using QGIS to generate thematic maps and change detection analysis. Nine LULC categories were identified, including annual crops, perennial crops, built-up areas, forest classes, grassland, inland water, and open/barren land. Results revealed that annual crops remained the largest single land cover category, reflecting the municipality’s agricultural character. However, notable changes occurred over the ten-year period, including increases in built-up areas, perennial crops, and closed forest, alongside decreases in open forest and annual crop areas. Spatial patterns showed that land transformation was concentrated near settlements, transportation corridors, and accessible lowland areas. The findings may be associated with urbanization, agricultural activities, and infrastructure development, which are significant drivers of land cover change. The study highlights the importance of sustainable land use planning and environmental management in supporting balanced development within the municipality.
