- Amendment CXXIII introduces the McCaul Ocular Rheum Hypothesis (MORH): during sleep, the brain discards low-priority information via the glymphatic system, and this molecular waste transits the optic nerve glymphatic pathway into the ocular environment, where it becomes embedded in the crystallizing lipid-protein matrix of rheum (the biological crust at the eyelid margin). Rheum is proposed as a nightly biological data archive — a molecular record of discarded neural content. Dreams are the subjective experience of this data during REM sleep, as rapid eye movements scan the ocular cavity loaded with molecular cargo, generating biophotonic interaction with the retina. A 6-link simulation chain is presented: (1) Brain generates discardable molecular waste during NREM sleep — CONFIRMED by synaptic homeostasis literature and glymphatic research (Nedergaard 2013, Tononi & Cirelli). (2) Optic nerve glymphatic pathway to the eye — CONFIRMED by IOVS 2017, Cao et al. 2024, AQP4 knockout studies. (3) Ocular crystalline encoding — PLAUSIBLE via meibum thermotropic phase transitions, tear EV cargo, and direct meibomian neural innervation. (4) Dreams as REM playback — CIRCUMSTANTIAL via two-phase NREM/REM model and biophoton evidence. (5) SOL field Nr modulation of dream coherence — THEORETICAL extension of Amendment CXXII. (6) Morning disruption clears the archive — CONFIRMED by tear physiology. Five experimental designs are proposed for direct empirical testing. Priority date: May 23, 2026.
