- <p><b><i>Anomonyx</i> Saylor, 1940</b></p><p><i>Anomalonyx</i> Moser, 1921: 156 (<i>non</i> Weise, 1903).</p><p><i>Anomonyx</i> Saylor, 1940: 46 (replacement name for <i>Anomalonyx</i>).</p><p><b>Type species</b></p><p><i>Anomalonyx uruguayensis</i> Moser, 1921 (designation: monotypy).</p><p><b>Diagnosis</b></p><p>Clypeal ventral area large and vertically deflected; labrum slightly emarginate; pronotal anterior and posterior margins not beaded; prosternum with an anterior longitudinal carina; elytral striae indistinct, posterior margin not beaded and posterointernal margin beaded; metatarsomere I as long as II+III (Fig. 4 B); metatarsomere V with internoproximal spine-like setae (Fig. 4 B).</p><p><b>Remarks</b></p><p>The genera <i>Anomonyx</i>, <i>Oedichira</i> Burmeister, 1855 and <i>Plectris</i> LePeletier de Saint-Fargeau & Audinet-Serville, 1828 are similar to each other. <i>Anomonyx</i> is distinguished as follows (opposition to 1, <i>Oedichira</i>; 2, <i>Plectris</i>): clypeal ventral area vertically deflected (1, as <i>Anomonyx</i>; 2, vertically deflected or not); metatarsomere I as long as II+III (1, 2, as long as II–IV); metatarsomere II at least twice as long as wide (1, wider than long; 2, as <i>Anomonyx</i>). Future cladistic analyses and a taxonomic review of <i>Plectris</i> including <i>Anomonyx</i> and <i>Oedichira</i> are needed to determine the possible synonymy between these genera.</p>
