•
The research NEGRITUDE, HIP HOP AND TERRITORY - BH CANTA E DANÇA aims to study the street event called “BH Canta e Dança”, held for ten years, and its impact on the construction of Belo Horizonte's Hip Hop culture, as well as contributing to the record of this memory, of a relevant and poignant cultural production made – and from the perspective of – black and peripheral people in one of the most important capitals of Brazil. This study also aims to contribute to the understanding of the early days of hip-hop culture in the city and the mechanisms that allowed young Brazilians to appropriate an entire symbolic construction coming from young African-Americans, and Latin and Jamaican immigrants from the Bronx, in New York.
