contents The notion of citizen science is often referred to as the means of engaging public members in scientific research activities that can advance the reach and impact of technoscience. Despite this, few studies have addressed how human-machine collaborations in a citizen science context enable and constrain scientific citizenship and citizens' epistemic agencies and reconfigure science-citizen relations, including the process of citizens' engagement in scientific knowledge production. The following will address this gap by analysing the human and nonhuman material and discursive engagements in the citizen science project The Sound of Denmark. Doing so contributes to new knowledge on designing more responsible forms of citizen science engagement that advance civic agencies. Key findings emphasise that citizen science development can benefit from diverse fields such as participatory design research and feminist technoscience. Finally, the paper contributes to a broader debate on the formation of epistemic subjects, scientific citizenship, and responsible designing and evaluation of citizen science.
