SCHLEIBAUM, WILLIAM JOHN Administrator Attitudes Evening Programs Instructional Improvement Library Services Program Administration Services Teacher Attitudes Teacher Improvement Teacher Role Teacher Salaries Teacher Supervision Two Year Colleges TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DAY AND EVENING DIVISIONS WITH RESPECT TO ADMINISTRATIVE, SUPERVISORY, AND SPECIAL SERVICES, QUESTIONNAIRES WERE SENT TO 320 FACULTY MEMBERS RANDOMLY SELECTED FROM 16 CALIFORNIA JUNIOR COLLEGES AND 10 EVENING DIVISION DEANS WERE INTERVIEWED. THE RETURNS INDICATED THAT (1) ADDITIONAL EVENING ADMINISTRATIVE TIME IS NEEDED, (2) BEGINNING EVENING TEACHERS NEED ORGANIZED ORIENTATION PROGRAMS, (3) EVENING TEACHERS DO NOT WISH TO BE VITAL PARTS OF THE COLLEGE ORGANIZATION, (4) EVENING CLASSROOMS ARE ADEQUATE, THOUGH STORAGE SPACE IS USUALLY LACKING, (5) EVENING TEACHERS CONSIDER OFFICE SPACE UNNECESSARY, (6) LIBRARY SERVICES ARE SATISFACTORY, THOUGH USE IS LIMITED AND STUDENTS NEED INSTRUCTION IN LIBRARY USE, (7) USE OF VISUAL AIDS IS OFTEN INCONVENIENT, (8) EVENING CLASSES ARE NOT GIVEN ADEQUATE SUPERVISION, (9) COURSE OUTLINES ARE ESSENTIAL AS AIDS TO THE EVENING TEACHER, (10) TESTS SHOULD BE USED AS BASES FOR PLACEMENT OF STUDENTS IN CLASSES, (11) STANDARDIZED TESTS SHOULD BE USED TO COMPARE ACHIEVEMENT IN DAY AND EVENING PROGRAMS, (12) SPECIAL INTEREST ORGANIZATIONS WITH FACULTY SPONSORS ARE NOT PRACTICAL IN EVENING PROGRAMS, AND (13) EVENING PAY SCALES ARE NOT COMMENSURATE WITH DAY SALARIES.
