- Check List of Books and Periodicals for an Undergraduate Physics Library. Bibliographies Books College Science Instructional Materials Periodicals Physical Sciences Physics Textbooks Undergraduate Study The quality and effectiveness of the undergraduate education physics program are of growing concern. The place of the science library as a significant contributor to the undergraduate program, and the availability of funds has raised questions as to what constitutes a basic undergraduate physics library. The American Institute of Physics published a checklist of books for an undergraduate library in 1962, and many recent requests for this out of print list has pointed to a need for a new revision. Eight physics departments cooperated to compile the list of 2,028 titles (compared to 1,880 in 1962). List I contains 618 titles that were selected by five to eight of the institutions, while List II includes 1,410 titles that were listed by two to four institutions. Books are listed according to the Dewey Decimal System, alphabetically by author within these designations. They are also numbered sequentially throughout the list. A list of periodicals is also given. (DH)
