contents A Guide for Developing Comprehensive Community College Facilities. Merlo, Frank P. Buildings Campus Planning College Planning Construction Needs Doctoral Dissertations Educational Facilities Educational Specifications Equipment Standards Facilities Facility Guidelines Space Utilization Two Year Colleges Heretofore community colleges have adopted the facility standards of high schools or other colleges, or have devised their own. To establish flexible specifications especially for the junior college, based on the educational program, architectural feasibility, safety, student and faculty use, and possible future needs, a 6-man jury prepared a report on what standards are being used and which are considered desirable by specialists. The jury worked from a checklist of 304 items, which, after consultation with specialists and visits to eight colleges, they revised to guide them in determining the information needed for the final specifications. The list had 14 categories: planning the site, the buildings, general purpose instructional areas, special purpose areas, drama department, student center, administrative facilities, guidance center, faculty areas, custodial and maintenance facilities, student health center, bookstore, library, and evening program facilities. The final checklist and the guide, prepared in a parallel form, are shown complete for the use of other facility planners. (HH)
