County Libraries Financial Support Library Expenditures Library Networks Library Planning Public Libraries Tax Allocation Kansas has a large number of small city-supported public libraries. In many cases because the cities are unable to provide adequate financial support for their libraries, limited services are offered. Because of the need for greater tax bases for libraries, a number of county libraries and one regional library have been formed. However, many of the cities are reluctant to give up control of their libraries for fear of losing what library service they have. The author concludes that some way must be found to keep local interest in libraries strong and yet to provide a system with a large enough financial base to provide adequate library service for all. Statistics on library expenditures, library revenues, and tax levies on public libraries in Kansas are presented. (CC)
