The guidelines that emerged were based in part on a review of past efforts and existing standards but primarily reflected the diverse and extensive experience of the audiovisual experts participating. Tentative standards were presented to the Department of Audiovisual Instruction, National Education Association for endorsement. A preliminary distribution of thousands of copies of the interim report was made to schools, industries, professional societies, and accrediting agencies. Subsequently, a questionnaire study elicited opinions on the value of standards and their strengths and weaknesses from AV specialists throughout the country. The map"""y of statements (59%) gave the standards a four-point rating on a five-point scale of "helpfulness." A series of case studies in progress to provide a further in-depth comparison of the standards with the AV usage of a national sample of schools and colleges is described. Appendices include the preliminary and final versions of the quantitative standards. (SS/MF) |
