The four basic conclusions of the conference were that: (1) the appropriate Federal agencies and the library profession should appoint an official national advisory committee for library statistics, (2) the concept of a national plan is endorsed, with the means of implementation to be clarified, (3) the Handbook is accepted as the basic document from which the profession will derive concepts and programs, and (4) it is necessary for ALA and its divisions to consider conference recommendations and arrive at a consensus as to their validity and priority.
