| contents | Expanding Opportunities: Case Studies of Interinstitutional Cooperation, 1969. Black Colleges Black Education Cooperative Programs Coordination Higher Education Institutional Cooperation This report details the experiences of colleges in 5 cases of interinstitutional cooperation which hold the potential of becoming permanent and of contributing significantly to the expansion of higher educational opportunity for Negroes in the South. All the cases--Stetson University and Bethune-Cookman College; Bennett, Greensboro and Guilford Colleges; Catawba and Livingstone Colleges; the Texas Association of Developing Colleges; and LeMoyne and Owen Colleges--involve types of cooperation among liberal arts institutions in proximity to each other. Because the success of an interinstitutional program is affected by the procedures used in its formation, these case studies include descriptions of the procedures employed and candid analysis of some of the problems encountered. The cases demonstrate the feasibility and value of joint curricular offerings by traditionally Negro and white institutions, of shared library resources, instructional funds and administrative facilities, and the effective introduction of black studies into the curriculum. Evidence presented supports the continuation and expansion of such arrangements. (JS) |
