- Report on Operation of New York State Guidance Center for Women, November 6, 1966 to August 31, 1968. Westervelt, Esther M. Academic Education Adult Dropouts Career Counseling Case Records Community Colleges Disadvantaged Educational Counseling Employment Females Followup Studies Guidance Centers Information Services Library Services Part Time Employment Program Costs Program Evaluation Radio State Aid Statistical Data Womens Education Workshops The New York Guidance Center for Women at Rockland Community College provided educational and vocational counseling and information and advisory services through the library, career guidance workshops, public meetings, and radio programs. Individual counseling and testing of clients took place at the center, and group counseling in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Minor research was conducted to: (1) evaluate methods of followup of clients withdrawing from counseling before completion; (2) study effectiveness of group orientation for pre-counseling preparation; and (3) evaluate counseling services. Elimination of the pilot project from the state budget cut out the final year of evaluation but the center has been continued as an agency of Rockland Community College. (Recommendations, statistical summary, discussions of the sociology and psychology of the mature woman's career potential and differing conceptions and emerging patterns in counseling and testing services, and selected case histories are included.)
