  • Intersystem Compatibility and Convertibility of Subject Vocabularies. Wall, E. Barnes, J. Automation Citations (References) Databases Indexing Information Processing Information Systems Subject Index Terms Thesauri Vocabulary This is the fifth in a series of eight reports of a research study for the National Agricultural Library (NAL) on the effective utilization of bibliographic data bases in machine readable form. NAL desires ultimately to develop techniques of interacting with other data bases so that queries put to NAL may be answered with documents or document surrogates obtained from these other data bases. One possible mode of query placement is that called NAL Integrated. Such a mode would require NAL to convert extracted portions of other data bases to NAL's file structure, computer medium, format, and indexing terminology; it is the last aspect which seems to entail extreme cost and/or difficulty. It is to this aspect of indexing terminology that this phase of the overall study is directed. (Author/JW)
