  • SPIRES (Stanford Physics Information REtrieval System) 1969-70 Annual Report to the National Science Foundation (Office of Science Information Service). Parker, Edwin B. Information Retrieval Information Storage Physics The third annual report (covering the 18-month period from January 1969 to June 1970) of the Stanford Physics Information REtrieval System (SPIRES) project, which is developing an augmented bibliographic retrieval capability, is presented in this document. A first section describes the background of the project and its association with Project BALLOTS (Bibliographic Automation of Large Library Operations using Time Sharing), a second section examines the SPIRES I prototype, a third section considers the system development process for SPIRES II, and a fourth section outlines system scope and requirements analysis.
