And Others Cost Effectiveness Cost Estimates Library Technical Processes Medical Libraries In the fall of 1969, the New York Metropolitan Reference and Research Library Agency (METRO), with the cooperation of the Medical Library Center of New York, began to plan a cost survey of the operations of the Center. The actual period of the survey is from January to June 1970. The survey provides an estimate of income and expenditures for the operation of the Center, based on staff, work performed, and input and output. The end result is the provision of a unit cost for each operation performed by the Center--storage, retrieval, cataloging, delivery and the operation of the Union Catalog of Medical Periodicals. This survey is confined to an analysis of current operations at the Medical Library Center and their costs. No attempt is made to evaluate these operations or propose alternative procedures.
