contents Geography in the Two-Year Colleges. Community Colleges Curriculum Development Curriculum Evaluation Educational Needs Geography Instruction Physical Geography Resource Materials Statistical Surveys Surveys Two Year Colleges World Geography This examination of the status of geography in U.S. junior colleges begins with a consideration of the role of two-year colleges in higher education, and an appraisal of the place of geography in the context of general education. Results of a broad survey including number of instructors, courses, enrollment, etc. are followed by a detailed examination of the four courses most commonly offered in two-year colleges--economic, world regional, cultural, and physical geography. Consideration is then given to: training and staffing (pre-service and in-service); instructional techniques and strategies; and classroom equipment and library needs. Resource and bibliographic guides in the form of appendices supplement this information. Fourteen recommendations directed to geography instructors and administrators conclude this report. (JLB)
