| contents | A Plan for Developing an Adult Music Education Program in Charlotte, North Carolina. Stern, Jack Adult Education Community Programs Doctoral Dissertations Educational Opportunities Evaluation Facilities Guidelines History Leadership Music Appreciation Music Education Objectives Program Development Public Libraries Publicize Radio Television This study traces the historical growth and significance of adult education and reviews the historical, educational, and cultural development of Charlotte, North Carolina. The program in adult music education is focused on the following areas: a formal course in general consumer music; informal groups and ensembles; the community chorus; the community band and orchestra; instrumental classes; radio and television activities; and public library activities. The programs presented are general in nature and flexible enough to adapt to changing needs and interests. The potential is unlimited. Although implementation of the program is not a part of the project, guidelines are suggested for the development of leadership, promotion and publicity, financing, facilities, and evaluation. This project was undertaken with the hope that it would develop a greater appreciation for the meaning and value of adult and music education, promote greater lasting participation in musical activities, and increase Charlotte's stature as a musical community.
