Divided into 5 parts, the book offers vivid descriptions of the author's early life--his family, his friends, his surroundings, as well as events in the journey from Jalcocotan that eventually ended in San Francisco, California. Included are descriptions of the difficulties encountered by Little Ernie and his family in trying to adjust to their new life in the United States. In essence, this is the story of a Mexican boy's acculturation to American society. The book is a contribution to the rapidly developing field called Mexican American Studies. (EJ)
