- A Selected Annotated Bibliography of Louisiana Indian Languages. Hough, David L. American Indian Languages Annotated Bibliographies Anthropology Evaluation Literature Reviews Masters Theses Surveys The document presents a survey and evaluation of the literature on Louisiana Indian languages. The methodology employed was the library search. Sources were publications of the Bureau of American Ethnology, anthropological and linguistic works, pertinent theses and dissertations, and other works relating to the subject. The first part of the thesis is a review of the literature which emphasizes the development of Louisiana Indian language studies. The second section consists of a selected annotated bibliography of Louisiana Indian languages. The third part of the study is a summary of information on the Louisiana Indian population at the beginning of the historic period and at present, and a summary of the present status as to speakers of the original Louisiana Indian languages. It was found that there is a relatively large number of studies of Louisiana Indian languages distributed through many different sources and of widely different character. (Author/EL)
