The statistical tables of this report are of value to administrators, librarians, and others because: (1) they help round out the picture of National library resources, (2) they provide a factual basis for comparing library resources and services with ALA - recommended standards, (3) they are useful in the formulation of budgets and self-studies, (4) they provide basic data for further research in the development of academic libraries and (5) they provide guidelines for accrediting associations and academic library consultants. The following items are covered for the first time in this report: (1) volumes withdrawn, (2) physical units of various types of microforms, (3) number of interlibrary loan transactions and (4) library operating expenditure per full-time equivalent (FTE) faculty members.
