  • The Special Collection in Librarianship. Lee, Robert Conferences Guidelines Library Collections Library Education Library Material Selection Library Schools Library Science Masters Degrees Professional Education School Libraries The purpose of this paper is to recommend guidelines for the development of a special collection of materials to support a fifth year master's program in Librarianship. Reasons for the desirability of establishing a separate library school library are stated and some of the factors to consider in the initial and continuing development of the library school collection are suggested. It is assumed that: (1) the separate library school collection is readily accessible to the library school, (2) the library school is housed either in the main library or in a building near the main library and (3) a full-time professional librarian is in charge of the library school library. The major responsibilities of the library school librarian are searching the literature for suitable materials, ordering these materials, working with the faculty, assisting students, and establishing procedures designed to make new materials available as soon as possible to students and faculty.
