contents Joint Serials Control System Project for the Libraries of Cornell University, University of Rochester and the State University of New York at Buffalo. Phase I Feasibility Study. Final Report. Automation College Libraries Library Cooperation Library Technical Processes Serials The Joint Serials Control System includes a total of 38 libraries on three campuses. Twelve have independent technical service units for processing serials and 26 are dependent libraries. The objective of Phase I of this Project is to identify feasible alternative system configurations and provide a basis for their evaluation so that the contract libraries can select the most workable configuration for intensive design in Phase II. The alternatives must take into consideration three major factors: (1) requirements of the contract libraries, (2) implications of state and national standards and (3) the state-of-the-art of automated library applications in general and serials control systems in particular. Four tasks are defined to fulfill these objectives: (1) a literature review and bibliography on serials control systems and related topics, (2) the analysis of non-contract libraries and other organizations, (3) the study of current serials systems at the contract libraries and (4) the cost estimate of alternative system configurations. This final report is presented in five sections: (1) conclusions and recommendations, (2) literature review summary and conclusions, (3) report on selected non-contract libraries and other organizations, (4) analysis of current systems at the contract libraries and (5) alternative system configuration costs.
