contents The Baccalaureate Origins of Doctorates in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Awarded in the United States. From 1936 to 1950 Inclusive. Bachelors Degrees Degrees (Academic) Doctoral Degrees Humanities Liberal Arts Social Sciences Statistical Data Surveys The goal of this survey is to identify all doctorate degrees granted in the US from 1936 through 1950 and to determine where the degree recipients earned their first (usually baccalaureate) degrees. The data concern the fields of: anthropology and archeology, business and commerce, economics, education, fine arts and architecture, geography, history and civilization, home economics, jurisprudence, language, literature and philology (English and foreign), library science, linguistics, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology and speech. Part I presents data on the production of doctorates in the various fields by institution. Part II contains data on BA origins of doctorates tabulated in Part I. Part III presents tables showing distribution of time lapses between baccalaureate and doctorate award, the number of persons completing their doctorates at the same institution they earned their BA, and comparing 4 categories of institutions as baccalaureate origins of doctorates: US doctorate-granting schools, US schools at which the masters degree is the highest degree awarded, US schools which award only baccalaureate degrees, and all foreign schools.
