contents Use Made of Technical Libraries. Slater, Margaret Fisher Pamela Feedback Foreign Countries Libraries Library Services Library Surveys Special Libraries Use Studies An analysis of 6300 acts of use in 104 technical libraries in the United Kingdom is reported. This study restricts itself to information search employing documents through the library and concentrates on the following aspects of behavior: (1) the form of the demand made upon the library, (2) the origin of the demand, (3) the kinds of documents used and (4) the effort made by the user. Users were questioned as to the success of their efforts, and data was obtained on possible influencing factors. In broadest summary, this study has confirmed that variations in these factors do affect many aspects of user behavior; it has provided data on the quantitative importance of these effects and it has indicated that the nature of the employing institution and work activity are more potent influences than subject discipline.
