Bilingualism Cataloging Computers Dewey Decimal Classification English Information Retrieval Information Systems Library Automation Library Catalogs Library Collections Library Services Public Libraries Welsh Use of computer techniques is being more generally applied within public libraries but details of purpose, development and operation are of interest to those on the brink of change. A recent application of computer techniques to a bilingual library book-stock is briefly outlined. The catalog records were computerized by section, and a bilingual set of detailed cataloging instructions were devised for dealing with books in English and Welsh. Each September the old Master Files are integrated with the current year's new title and backlog files and the print-outs distributed to branch and mobile libraries. The catalog is in classified form using the Dewey Decimal Classification. Series and Publishers' code lists are produced in edge punched card form. The practical results achieved for the benefit of readers have amply justified the application of computer techniques to library functions. (AB)
