contents Meeting of Experts on Book Production and Distribution in Asia (Tokyo, 25-31 May 1966). Final Report. Books Developing Nations Financial Needs Information Needs Library Planning Publishing Industry Reading Materials Technical Assistance The central thesis of the meeting is the need for a systematic plan for the development of book production and distribution in the countries of Asia. The aim is to increase the annual per capita supply of educational books from an estimated level of 16 pages per person per year to 80 pages per person per year by 1980. The provisional minimum 1968 target for both general and educational books is estimated at a total of 160 pages per person per year. Attainment of these targets would require an expansion of book supply of at least 12.5% annually, on an average, in the region as a whole. The experts recommended the setting up of national textbook institutes to increase the supply of books for in-and out-of-school education. The potential scope for bilateral aid programs in all forms is considerable. (MM)
