  • Review and Synthesis of Research on Vocational and Technical Education for the Rural Disadvantaged. Oaklief, Charles Citations (References) Disadvantaged Educational Programs Educationally Disadvantaged Literature Reviews Research Reviews (Publications) Rural Areas Rural Education Rural Population Technical Education Vocational Education Legislation and social concern have given new focus and special emphasis to meeting the special needs of the disadvantaged segment of the population. Much recent research has also been concerned with this important priority topic. Intended to be an authoritative analysis of the literature in the field, this "state of the art" paper should assist in identifying substantive problems and methodological approaches for researchers interested in the solution of rural problems, and provide practitioners with a summary of research findings that have application to educational programs in rural areas. This publication reviews the educational disadvantagement of rural people as influenced by socioeconomic and other factors with reference to the accomplishments of vocational and technical education. The review covers pre-vocational to adult and continuing education for the rural disadvantaged. The research information reviewed was gathered primarily through the ERIC system, Dissertation Abstracts, and the library at the Center. (Author/GB)
