Educational Planning Employment Opportunities Higher Education Labor Force Development Labor Needs Planning The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) held the first national Conference on New Directions-New Programs-New Professions in Washington, D.C. on October 10-13, 1971. The goals of the conference were twofold: (1) to exchange information between representatives of AASCU institutions, officials of Federal government agencies, representatives o f professional associations, and representatives of educational organizations regarding the nation's rising manpower needs in the new fields; and (2) to discuss ways in which AASCU institutions can redirect existing resources to better meet new priorities. The conference focused on new careers in the areas of education, environment, health, welfare and community service, justice, library and information services, and government and public service. Corresponding workshops were held for each major area. (Author/HS)
