contents Development and Testing of Automated Library Processes: Report on OSTI-Supported Project, April 1968 to March 1971. Summary. Cataloging Computers Libraries Library Automation Library Technical Processes Periodicals Systems Development The aim of the project was to develop automated systems encompassing the functions of existing manual procedures, but only when the functions could also be surpassed sufficiently to justify the cost of automation. The housekeeping systems were to be viewed as a whole and appropriate interfaces provided between them so as to provide an integrated series of systems. Improving the reader's subject approach to the collections took priority in the automation process. A joint project was undertaken with Southampton whose priorities were concentration on loans, MARC tape utilization, and an order system. It was agreed to make the systems developed as integrated and usable to other libraries as possible. (SJ)
