contents Literature Search; A Planning Document for the Establishment of a Nationwide Educational Telecommunications System. Annotated Bibliographies Cable Television Communications Satellites Computer Assisted Instruction Dial Access Information Systems Educational Radio Educational Technology Educational Television Information Networks Information Systems Literature Reviews Medical Education Simulation Systems Approach Telecommunications Telephone Communications Systems A literature search, made to provide a data base for a proposed nationwide educational telecommunications system, reviews and summarizes existing literature in the field. Educational telecommunications is divided into eight categories: instructional television, educational radio, telephone instruction, dial access information retrieval systems, information network systems, communications satellite systems, common carrier, and computer augmented learning. A ninth section deals with education and telecommunications in general. Within each category, a description of the category is followed by a brief discussion of its technology and its implication for education. In most cases the description is followed by a review of the literature in which the significance of various publications is pointed out, and the main areas of research noted. The final section presents an annotated reference for each publication. Publications which were obtained too late for review, but which appear to be of major significance, are listed without annotation. The files of the National Technical Information Service, NASA, the National Library of Medicine's AIM-TWX system, and the ERIC system were searched along with a number of libraries specializing in educational telecommunications topics.
