It is intended to be a practical work, though it is based upon the theory of Faceted Classification. The method used is to construct a faceted classification based upon an analysis of the literature to be indexed. This becomes the basic language which may then be used to provide a preco-ordinate classification or subject headings or a language for post co-ordinate indexing or any combination of these that may be needed.
