Cataloging Cooperative Programs Library Technical Processes Publishing Industry The purpose of Cataloging in Publication (CIP) is to provide professional cataloging data to publishers so that the data will be printed in the book. Since CIP will reduce cataloging costs and speed the delivery of books to readers, it should be beneficial to both the library world and the publishing industry. The number of participating publishers has grown from 27 in July 1971 to 157. The goal of CIP is to provide Library of Congress Cataloging in Publication data at an annual rate of 30,000 titles by July 1973. The publishing houses and their divisions who are actively participating in the CIP program, or who plan to participate in the future are listed. The selected bibliography contains references to the articles and announcements concerning CIP that have appeared in the library and trade press. (Author/NH)
