| contents | Combined Edition of Family Planning Library Manual and Family Planning Classification. Classification Demography Family Planning Guides Indexing Information Retrieval Library Technical Processes Population Trends Reference Materials This edition combines two previous publications of the Katharine Dexter McCormick Library into one volume: the Family Planning Library Manual, a guide for starting a family planning and population library or information center, and the Family Planning Classification, a coding system for organizing book and non-book materials so that they can be easily found. The Family Planning Classification contains the coding system by which Planned Parenthood-World Population (PPWP) documents and articles are assigned a number for easy filing; an index of subjects, with the file number of each subject; and a glossary of family planning terms. The Family Planning Library manual has sections explaining: classification in general, the PPWP scheme in particular; the index; how to select books, where and how to order them; how to process them into the library; and how to set up a card catalog for books. It also has sections which explain the selection and ordering of vertical file materials (journal articles, documents, etc); the actual physical aspects of the vertical file; and how to handle journal articles in general, as well as other topics of interest to librarians.
