- Library Technical Assistant: A Suggested Two-Year Post-High School Curriculum. Administrator Guides Behavioral Objectives Bibliographies Career Ladders Curriculum Guides Educational Facilities Employment Qualifications Instructional Materials Job Skills Laboratory Equipment Library Technicians Postsecondary Education Program Guides Resource Materials Technical Education Vocational Education Extended library responsibilities, stemming from a knowledge explosion, necessitate the planning and modification of post-secondary library technical training. This program guide developed by technical education specialists and designed for the use of administrators and their advisers, provides plans for a post-secondary, 4-semester curriculum for library technical assistants. General considerations outline program preparation and discuss prerequisites to be met by administrators, faculty, and students. A curriculum description includes an outline of course contents and suggestions for cooperative education and continuing study. There are also supplementary lists of facilities, equipment, and costs. Five appendixes list career ladders from selected sources, a pre-technical prerequisite skill curriculum, national skills tests, journals and periodicals for the technical curriculum, and societies and agencies involved in the education of library technical assistants. The curriculum described here reflects three basic requirements for any technical position: functional utility, specialized technical skills and provision for their application, and continual broadening of a base of knowledge and skills.
