Administrative Organization Bibliographies Compensatory Education Courses Curriculum Field Trips Guides Health Education Individualized Instruction Migrant Education Migrant Youth Parent Participation Spanish Speaking The product of a workshop conducted on the Fort Hays Kansas State College campus in 1971, this handbook was developed and published as a source of information for teachers of migrant children in the State of Kansas and for other persons interested in the education of each migrant child. The handbook encourages continuous progress and a nongraded organization and emphasizes individual instruction. Chapter 1 provides a comprehensive history of migrant education in Kansas and nationally, including the geographical location of migrant programs in Kansas in 1970. Discussed in the second chapter is the administration and organization of migrant education, including public relations (parental involvement), primary education, intermediate grades, program directors, contact personnel, teachers, teacher aides, teacher specialists, librarians, school nurses, school food personnel, school custodians, school bus drivers, and school secretaries. Facets of the curriculum discussed in chapter 3 are art, field trips and realia, health and safety, language arts, mathematics, music, physical education, science, and social studies. In chapter 4, the conclusion, a letter to the State Consultant on Migrant Education describes the children's reactions to the library program at Sharon Springs, Kansas. Books for teachers' use, books for children's use, periodicals, posters and kits, and films and filmstrips are included in the bibliography. (HBC)
