Evaluation Library Planning Library Services Objectives State Libraries State Programs Statewide Planning The 468 libraries in Rhode Island(public, academic, school, and special) are all seeking to give optimum access to information to their users. The chief new component of the Five-Year Program presented is the development of ways to reach those who are not now library users at the same time that services to the current patrons are improved and strengthened. This particularly refers to those who have not sought out libraries because they have lacked advantages in a variety of ways. The program calls for a continuance and strengthening of the five Interrelated Library Systems and the Statewide library networks already established. The new efforts delineated in this five-year program are: (1) selective acquisition, (2) special services to pre-school children, (3) a statewide network of services to the homebound, (4) library services for economic advancement, (5) libraries as a focus of continuing education and (6) the training of para-professionals for work in libraries.
