Educational Legislation Federal Aid Federal Government Federal Legislation Federal Programs International Programs Libraries Library Planning Library Services The American Library Association's policy on federal legislation is based on its objectives of promoting and improving library service and librarianship. Representing those who use libraries as well as those who operate them, the Association is a source of information on libraries and information services for those concerned with formulating and implementing federal legislation. Legislative action is considered especially pertinent in the following four areas: (1) Direct support of library services which includes national library networks, telecommunications, federal aid to education and libraries, school library media centers, career education, public libraries, service to the handicapped and institutionalized, and federal libraries; (2) Indirect support of library services including research in information science, postal rates, copyright, and taxation; (3) Intellectual freedom; (4) International programs such as Unesco, the Organization of American States, U.S. libraries abroad, international copyright and international postal policy. Included is a listing of laws affecting librarians, libraries and their users. (Author/DH)
