- The Changing Role of the Special Librarian in Industry, Business, and Government. Ladendorf, Janice M. Change Agents Information Networks Information Science Librarians Library Networks Library Research Research Needs Role Perception Special Libraries Staff Role With the onset of the information explosion, the role of the special librarian began to change. While his service goals remained the same, new techniques had to be developed to cope with the flood of published literature. Both networking and information science represent predictable responses to this situation. Information science offers a new technique--the computer; a new method--management analysis; and a new approach to the problem of evaluation. Much research needs to be done on all aspects of the special librarian's role. In particular, the problem of evaluating information services on the user's terms needs to be thoroughly explored.
