Centralization Library Automation Library Services Program Evaluation School Libraries The major objective of Project LEEDS (Library Exemplary Elementary Demonstration of Springfield) was to provide a visitation program emphasizing a demonstration of excellent service to the school district. The project had three components: (1) the library program was integrated into the educational program by providing librarians in every school, teaching the skills to students, and providing services to staff and students; (2) designing an automated library system; and (3) centralized services for instructional media, book processing and a curriculum library. The specific objectives were listed under the following headings: Demonstrate and encourage excellent library programs, Availability of supporting material, Promotion of increased use of libraries, Facilities and equipment, Exemplary and innovative library demonstration project, Program for pre-school children, and OTIS automated library system study. This report evaluates the project in terms of these objectives and concludes that Project LEEDS was a worthwhile undertaking. (Author/SJ)
