The program included the following topics: (1) survey of periodical publishing in documentation, librarianship and archives; (2) improvement of editing and publishing in these fields by improving quality of content, achieving greater uniformity in presentation, reducing delay in publication, and improving distribution; (3) improvement of coverage of professional literature in abstracting and indexing journals and better relations between professional journals and abstracting and indexing journals; and (4) promotion of international cooperation between editors of journals including a need for increased contacts between editors, assistance to editors in developing countries, organization of study trips for editors, more use of foreign authors in national journals, and the need for some method of maintaining permanent consultation between editors. The lists of participants, papers distributed, and materials displayed at the symposium are included as appendices. (Author/SJ) |
