After introductory remarks, the report presents the results of a questionnaire answered by Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela concerning library education, professional associations, relevant legislation, library structure, planning, organization, and services. The final part presents a strategy for future action. An appendix discusses the UNISIST project, an international system for the dissemination of scientific information.
