- On-Line Cataloging. Cataloging Citations (References) College Libraries Computer Programs Library Automation Library Catalogs Library Technical Processes Online Systems The principal objective of the Ohio College Library Center is to lower the rate of rise of per-unit library costs while increasing the availability of library resources for use by patrons of participating libraries. A major procedural goal of the on-line cataloging system is to furnish cataloging personnel in individual libraries with bibliographic information when and where they need it. When a book leaves the terminal, bibliographic cataloging should be complete. One of the purposes of this manual is to specify the additional steps required in the data collection process to prepare bibliographic data for conversion into machine readable form. This document is an instructional manual for libraries employing the on-line cataloging system of the Ohio College Library Center. The manual describes the cathode ray tube terminal, instructs in the operation of the terminal, and explains the tagging and coding of bibliographic data to conform with the Library of Congress MARC II Communications Format.
