contents A Survey of User Attitudes Toward Selected Services Offered by the Colorado State University Libraries. Burns, Robert W., Jr. College Libraries Evaluation Methods Libraries Library Facilities Library Services Library Surveys Measurement Techniques Questionnaires Reference Services Science Education Student Evaluation Surveys Universities Use Studies A study was conducted at the Colorado State University Libraries to determine the needs and attitudes of students and faculty members in relation to library services in general and to the science reference desk in particular. In addition, the habits and preferences of a cross-section of library users were investigated, and an instrument was developed for surveying library populations. Some results of the study indicate that a majority of Colorado State University Library users live off campus, prefer to use the library from 7-10 P.M., had been in the library within the previous week, do not use the library 'very often' for its more common services, and rarely use the library to read newspapers. Library hours and services including the science reference desk were felt to be satisfactory although there was some negative response to the unavailability of recent journals and journals at the bindery. A literature review of use studies, a sixty-eight item bibliography, and a copy of the questionnaire are provided. (JG)
