contents A Survey of the Attitudes, Opinions and Behavior of Citizens of Colorado With Regard to Library Services. Volume I. General Statewide Summary. Attitudes Information Needs Interviews Library Services Library Surveys Public Libraries State Surveys Use Studies This report highlights the results of a survey designed to reflect the opinions and attitudes of the people of Colorado with regard to the libraries in the State. In July and August 1973, a base sample of 804 personal interviews were conducted with a cross-section of the State's population, according to an area probability sample. The results are summarized in tabular form in five sections. The initial section deals with the use (or non-use) by Coloradans of all types of libraries: public, secondary school, college and university, and private or special libraries. Section two concerns citizens' evaluations and perceptions of their nearest library. Section three is concerned with usage or potential usefulness of various public library services. Section four details attitudes toward libraries--likes and dislikes, desirable purposes for libraries to fulfill, and opinions on particular issues of interest. The final section reports the findings as to the types of information which Coloradans feel are useful or desirable to have available, and their tendency to use a library for any of their information needs on a particular topic.
