It aims to describe a collection meeting as nearly as possible the standards recommended by the Standards for School Media Programs published by the American Library Association. A continuous analysis of curriculum trends is made to keep the selectors aware of new trends. The preface lists some of the continuing and new curriculum developments in elementary schools, a Gold Star List for 1973 of highly recommended media, and a directory of publishers. The main body of the guide is an annotated catalog of media classified by Dewey decimal number. It is divided into reference, non-fiction, fiction, easy, periodicals and professional tools. Section two consists of author, title and subject indexes to the volume. The final appendix section consists of a list of media for pre-school children and independent reading lists for grades 1 and 2. In addition to the usual bibliographic information and prices, each entry is rated for its importance to a collection and assigned reading and interest levels. (JG)
