Blindness Braille Federal Programs National Surveys Reading Material Selection Reading Materials Surveys Visual Impairments The results of a nationwide questionnaire survey of over 1,700 braille readers are reported in this document. The objective of the study was to provide new and current information on the characteristics and readership preferences of braille readers served by the Library of Congress's Division for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (DBPH). The methodology and sampling procedures were designed by Government Studies and Systems (GSS) of Philadelphia. The report is limited to a summary of survey response data and contains no evaluation of present or possible future DBPH policies and programs. The actual survey questionnaire, the response tables, the work plan and methodology, and the states included in the survey are presented in an extensive set of appendixes. (WDR)
